It provides the same functionality as the specialized APT tools, like apt-get and apt-cache, but enables options more suitable for interactive use by default.
Configuration options and syntax is detailed in apt. The commands you will use the most frequently are as follows: apt-get update Updates the repositories. Equivalent to refreshing in Cydia. If there are dependencies, you will be prompted to continue. When searching, the beginning of each line is the package name. Sometimes it will be a single word, though usually it will follow the pattern: com.
Even if you only ever plan on using Cydia for managing your packages, I would highly recommend installing Apt along with syslog. The following comments are owned by whoever posted them. Do not enforce permissions that your package should contain. Use that support! If your package scripts have problems, especially upon uninstallation, this can be very frustrating for your user because that can be very hard to fix for them. A related unfortunate reality is that if your package has complex scripts, that can increase the chances that if a pirate repository poorly repackages your tweak, somebody doing "try before they buy" can run into those error messages and get frustrated.
